Winter weather advisory issued for Butler County early Saturday morning
A winter weather advisory that includes freezing rain has been issued for Butler County and surrounding counties including Armstrong County.
The advisory is in effect from 3 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Less than 1/10 inch of ice will accumulate due to expected freezing rain.
Unlike last weekend when ice followed by snow caused a power outage that took out power for more than 38,000 residents, power is not expected to be affected this time. The main hazard this weekend will likely be black ice.
“The ice will be really short lived,” said Shannon Hefferan, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh.
Those out driving or walking during that time should be careful as the ice will cause very slippery conditions on sidewalks, roads and bridges early in the morning.
Hefferan said the ice won't be around long as the temperatures should rise over the weekend.
