Polls are open in Butler County
Polling stations across Butler County opened at 7 a.m. and will remain open through 8 p.m. today for the primary election.
"We're busier than I thought we'd be," said Megan Gorby, who was volunteering at Herman Fire Hall, the Summit Twp. South precinct.
Less than two hours into the day, she and her counterpart Renae Cavalero said 51 people had already cast their ballots.
Contested races on the ballot include those for county judge of common pleas, three district judges and numerous school board and township-level seats.
Winners will proceed to the November general election.
Further, voters today will have a say in three proposed state constitutional amendments and one statewide referendum.
A separate special election also is being held today to fill the 60th District seat in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives that is vacant due to the retirement of Rep. Jeff Pyle.
Voters will choose between Republican Abby Major, who was Pyle's chief of staff, and Democrat Frank Prazenica Jr., a Freeport Area School Board member who worked as superintendent of the South Butler County School District.
