Cornelius J. Schawalder, 90, of Magee Road, Perry Township, passed away on Friday at North Hills Passavant Hospital.

Born on March 31, 1921, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Cornelius and Rosalie Hollik Schawalder.

He married the former Ruth Landon on May 15, 1946.

Mr. Schawalder owned and operated C.J. Schawalder and Sons in the North Hills.

He was a member of St. Christopher's on the Lake Catholic Church and was a former member of the Portersville Rotary Club and the Air Heritage of Chippewa.

A veteran of World War II, he was a corporal in the Army Air Force, 830th Bombardment Squadron, where he received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 10 Bronze Stars.

Mr. Schawalder enjoyed woodworking and airplane restoration.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Lisa Schawalder of Wilkins Township; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Bill Deffner of Harmony; one sister, Mary Jane Swany of Wenatchee, Wash.; two brothers, Richard Schawalder of Zelienople and Robert Schawalder of Hawaii; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Robert and Daniel Schawalder.

<B>SCHAWALDER</B> — A memorial service for Cornelius J. Schawalder, who died Friday, April 22, 2011, will be held later. Arrangements are being handled by the <B>Joseph A.
