Nellie Nye Brown
Nellie Nye Brown, 88, of the Carriage Court, New Castle, formerly of Ellwood City, died Wednesday.
She was born Jan. 19, 1928, in North Sewickley, to the late Joseph Bert Nye and the late Florence Lena Weil Nye.
Nellie graduated as valedictorian from the old Portersville-Muddy Creek High School and later attended Butler Business College.
Nellie was a lifetime member of the Ellwood Free Methodist Church, where she served on the church board and was church treasurer for 35 years.
She worked at Butler Memorial Hospital for more than 28 years as the hospital's records librarian.
In January 1976, she married the late Dale Brown Sr., who died Nov. 18, 2006.
Nellie is survived by her stepchildren, Dale A. (Linda) Brown Jr. of Ellwood City; Patricia R. (Randall) Chronister of Slippery Rock; and Cynthia A. (Henry) Glowgoski of Gambrills, Md.; three brothers, Calvin W. Nye and M. Charles (Ellen) Nye, all of Portersville and Joseph B. (Dawn) Nye of New Matamoras, Ohio; one sister-in-law, Betsy Brown of Ellwood City; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, stepnieces and stepnephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Nellie was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret J. Lawther and Betty Rinker, and one brother in infancy.
BROWN — Friends of Nellie Nye Brown, who died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016, will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the TURNER FUNERAL HOME, 500 Sixth St., Ellwood City.Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev.
