Gene Marlin Whited

Gene Marlin Whited, 84, of Sarver, formerly of Rimersburg, passed away Feb. 9 at Oakmont Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation.

He was born March 1, 1933, in Rimersburg, the son of Charles Melvin Whited and Bertha Ann (Yates) Whited.

Gene grew up in Rimersburg and moved to the Butler area in 1955.

He honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1957 until 1959.

In 1956, Gene began his career with American General Life and Accident Insurance Co. by working as an agent in Butler. After 10 years, he was promoted to the position of district manager, first in Akron, Ohio, and then in New Kensington. Gene was later named the company's regional vice president for the Allegheny region. After more than 40 years of service, he retired from American General in 1999.

Throughout his career, Gene received many accolades for his leadership. He held many professional memberships and served as the past president for the National Association of Life Underwriters and the Society of Chartered Life Underwriters, Chartered Financial Consultants.

In addition to his strong work ethic and leadership at his company, Gene was also a leader in the community. He was involved in many groups, including the NRA and the Butler County Chamber of Commerce. Gene also held leadership positions for the Butler County United Way and the Butler Rotary, where he was the longtime chairman for the Rotary's Pancake Festival.

Flying was one of Gene's favorite hobbies. He was a member of the ABC Flying Club of Pittsburgh for 42 years and served as their president for 39 years. He also belonged to the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and many local flying clubs.

He will be remembered with love by his wife, Margie Jean (Keefer) Whited, whom he married Dec. 1, 1956; a son, Mark Eugene Whited of Arlington, Va.; his grandchildren, Jay Wesley Whited and his wife, Ashten, of Farmville, Va., and Kelsey Jean Nerrie and her husband, Erik, of Hollywood, Calif.; a great-granddaughter, Claire Whited; his brothers, William C. Whited and his wife, Fran, of Casa Grande, Ariz., and George Whited and his wife, Joan, of Columbus, Ohio; his sister, June Slaughenhaupt of Bend, Ore.; his nephews, Greg, David and Dan Whited, Karl and Eric Slaughenhaupt and Arthur Keefer; and his nieces, Elyse Douglas, Leanne Pope, Patty Jacobs and Kathy Barker.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents.

WHITED — The family of Gene Marlin Whited, who died Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, will receive friends from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 758 Main St., Rimersburg.Additional visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of funeral services at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev.
