Alice Kathryn Hilles (Sherwin) Mitchell
Alice Kathryn Hilles (Sherwin) Mitchell, 92, of Sarver passed away peacefully Saturday at the Good Samaritan Hospice with her loving family by her side.
Born Feb. 19, 1924, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Charles H. Hilles and Sara Kathryn (Sharpnack) Hilles.
Alice was a graduate of the first class of the U.S. Cadet Corps class at Butler Memorial Hospital's School of Nursing, 1946 to 1947.
She worked as a registered nurse for Butler Memorial Hospital, then she worked in private practice for Dr. Smith. Alice also worked as school nurse for the Clarence Brown Midwestern Intermediate Unit 4 in Saxonburg. Alice also attended Butler Beauty School and worked as beautician in her home.
She was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church in Sarver and the First United Methodist Church in Butler. Alice was a member of the Butler Nurses Association. She and her late husband were members of the Chapter 14 Western Pennsylvania International Harvesters Collectors Club. Alice was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed knitting. She was a very dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family.
Surviving are her sons, James Hilles (Sherry) Mitchell of Sarver and Edward P. (Cecelia) Sherwin Jr. of Cincinnati, Ohio; her daughter, Alice Sherwin (Frank) Mascherma of Pittsburgh; her grandchildren, Alice Elizabeth Mascherma (Shawn) McCallister, Craig Miller, Alicia Miller Cole, Shelby Kathryn Mitchell and Shannon Jessie Mitchell; and great-granddaughter, Eliana Alice McCallister.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, James W Mitchell Jr.; her daughter, Karen Sherwin Miller; her grandsons, Jeffrey Miller and Scott Miller; her great-grandson, Corigan McCallister; and her brothers, Charles and Samuel Hilles.
MITCHELL — Friends of Alice Kathryn Hilles (Sherwin) Mitchell, who died Saturday, April 30, 2016, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Fox Funeral Home, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg.Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Zion United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert H.
