Frederick J. Berns

Frederick J. Berns, 78, of Butler, passed away Sunday evening, Feb. 21, 2021, in the comfort of his home.

Born June 6, 1942, in Braddock, Pa., he was a son of the late Henry John Berns and Gertude Helen (Bahler) Berns.

Fred had lived in Castle Shannon from 1968 until moving to Butler in 1985.

He had worked in sales and was also assistant manager for Pinkerton Goodyear for 23 years, retiring in August of 2008.

He was a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Butler, and the Tanglewood Center. He had enjoyed camping and woodworking, and had volunteered for Butler Meals on Wheels.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.Surviving are his wife, Sheila C. (Corbett) Berns, whom he married Sept. 10, 1966; three children, Wendy Berns of Butler, Barbara (Albert) Sarvey of Butler and Glen (Stephanie) Berns of Shaler; three granddaughters, Hannah, Allie and Maggie Sarvey; and numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers.BERNS — Friends of Frederick J. Berns, who died Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 127 Franklin St., Butler.In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be sent to Butler Meals on Wheels, 218 E.
