John A. Baglier

John A. Baglier, 95, of Canfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully Monday and is safe at home with the Lord.

John will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends for his smile, outgoing personality and generosity.

He was born Sept. 19, 1923, in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of Joseph and Theresa (Mastopietro) Baglier, and was a lifelong area resident.

John served honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II in combat in the European Operations, France, Germany and England. He earned the rank of private first class and received the following decorations for his service to our country: the World War II Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon and the EAME Ribbon with three Bronze Stars.

John was a Ford dealer in Girard and Warren, Ohio, and a Buick — Cadillac GMC dealer in Sharon, Pa., retiring from the automobile business in 1997.

He was the president and founder of the Northeastern Ohio Auto Dealer's Association.

Post retirement, he started a new a career in commercial real estate, retiring once again at the age of 93 from Northwood Realty.

John was a true patriarch to his family and always was supportive in all their endeavors.

John loved the game of golf. He competed in national, state and local tournaments, winning the Ohio State Seniors Championship at the age of 60. He was Club Champion at Tippecanoe Country Club, Sharon Country Club, Trumbull Country Club and Oak Tree Country Club.

He loved to garden, he loved his flowers and he loved to cook. He also loved his church, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, where he served as a eucharistic minister, a member of the finance council and was a member of the Vestibule Club. He was past president of the Liberty School Board, was an exalted ruler of the Elks Club, was past board member of the Italian Scholarship League and was a past president of the Young-stown University Boosters Association in the 1960s.

John is survived by his wife, Mimi Baglier, whom he married Sept. 29, 1974; his sons, Jim (Vicky), Dennis (Ann), Doug (Adrienne) Baglier and Gary, Tom (Phyllis), Bill (Denise) and Jim (Elsa) Winterburn; his grandchildren, Rachael, Mike and Maria Baglier, Jimmy (Jacquelyn), Christina, Carly, Mia, Michael, Alex (Brenda), Anna and Tony Winterburn, Michaela Salas and Mike King; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Edith Paz and Josephine Berezo; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth VanSuch Baglier; his grandsons, Johnny Baglier and Joey Winterburn; his brothers, Sam and Lou Baglier; three sisters, Jenny Leo, Liz Centofanti and Eleanor Fanto; as well as his parents.

Monsignor Michael J.
