Paul Baker
Paul Baker, 93, of Nectarine passed away Monday at UPMC Northwest.
Paul was born July 18, 1923. He was the son of Braden and Sylvia Hovis Baker. He received his education from Walters School House.
Paul married Wilda Walters on Sept. 18, 1941. She passed away March 19, 1988.
Paul retired from Cooper Bessemer in Grove City in 1982 but worked other jobs throughout his life. He started working in 1939, digging coal for Baker Coal Mines. In 1944 he worked for Bantam in Butler as a sprayer, painting Jeeps for the war. Before starting work at Cooper Bessemer in 1950 he worked at the CPT in Franklin as a painter and also for the railway laying track.
Paul enjoyed his retirement to the fullest. He kept in touch with his buddies with his CBs, his handle being Short Wave. He kept busy in the garage, rebuilding small engines and his specialty, Wheel Horse lawn mowers. He kept his yard up and took great pride in mowing it. Paul was happiest outside hunting and fishing. He was an avid traveler, having visited all 50 states.
He worked for different townships hauling gravel and loved to lend a friend a hand hauling in their winter coal. He was a life member of the Moose in Franklin, a social member at the VFW in Hilliards and a member at the Eagles in Grove City.
Loved ones left to cherish Paul's memory are his daughter, Peggy Kelly, and her husband, Doug, of Clintonville; his granddaughters, Stacy Honen and her husband, Steve, of Ohio and Teresa Kelly of North Carolina.
Also surviving are his brother, Gene Baker of Nectarine; numerous nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Katherine Tirk of Harrisville.
