Dorothy D. Jenkins
Dorothy “Dot” Jenkins, 81, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., passed away to our dear Lord Saturday at the Tucson Medical Center.
Dot was born Feb. 6, 1930, to Anthony Graham and Violet Riding Graham in Butler.
One of nine children, she is survived by her sisters, Marilyn Tynan and Ruth Sarver, and a brother, Robert Graham, all of Butler.
Dot lived each day with unconditional love and devotion to her family.
She is survived by her seven children; three sons, Joseph Jenkins of Grove City, Professor Daniel Jenkins (Alese) of Ukiah, Calif., and Patrick Jenkins (Jen) of Highland Mills, N.Y.; and four daughters, Sally Jenkins of Vancouver, Wash., Dr. Kelly Jenkins of Portland, Ore., Dr. Jody Jenkins (Dr. David Knapp) of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Rebecca McCalmont of Sierra Vista, Ariz. Dot has 17 grandchildren and was anticipating the birth of her first great-granddaughter in April. She also is survived by her little Pekingese, Rosy.
She was a graduate of Butler High School, where she was a captain of the basketball team and voted “Most Athletic.” She also was also a champion jitterbugger.
Dot spent most of her years as a homemaker, and she traveled the world extensively. She was an “Energizer bunny” until her recent decline.
Dot loved to cook. She was happiest when she was cooking and feeding someone, including packing hundreds of bag lunches for the Buena Colts football teams.
Dot loved to garden and to harvest her own vegetables and flowers. She was a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan and recently celebrated her 81st birthday cheering the Steelers in the Super Bowl surrounded by her family.
Dot loved to read. She had a keen sense of humor and loved laughter. Her silly side came out most when she was with her younger sister, Marilyn, and her family delighted at seeing the two of them laugh themselves to tears.
A devout Catholic, Dot was a member of the St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church. She volunteered in the church library and enjoyed cooking for church family.
Dot's love will remain with us in the hearts of her children and grandchildren. Her twinkling blue eyes and “I love you's” will be sadly missed.
