Margaret Beatty
Margaret Iona Beatty, 97, of Slippery Rock died Tuesday at 4 a.m. at the Grove Manor Nursing Home, Grove City.
She was born in Pittsburgh Oct. 9, 1910, the daughter of William Joseph Steel and Margaret Agnes Berberich.
She was married to Frank Sedwick Beatty, whom she married June 15, 1933, and who died May 15, 1985.
She and her husband owned and operated Beatty's Gulf Service Station and Grocery Store on Route 173 in Slippery Rock Township until their retirement in 1976.
She was a graduate of Slippery Rock Normal School, now Slippery Rock University.
She taught for three years at Manchester High School in Pittsburgh.
Mrs. Beatty was a member of the Slippery Rock United Methodist Church, where she had taught Sunday School, was a member of the Kings Daughters Class and the United Methodist Women and where she served on committees including the building committee for the new sanctuary, built in 1959.
She was extremely close to her family. She enjoyed being with people, traveling and spent winters in St. Cloud, Fla.
Reading and expanding her knowledge kept her mind active until her death.
She is survived by a son, William T. Beatty Sr. and his wife, Audrey R., of Plain Grove; a daughter, I. Claire Barron and her husband, John W., of Slippery Rock; a sister, Florence M. Taylor of Emsworth; six grandchildren, William Beatty Jr., Steve Beatty, Barbara Pink and her husband, Gary, Joseph Beatty and his wife, Sarah, Frank W. Barron and his wife, Faith, and David J. Barron; three step-grandchildren, Rae Lynn Miller, Lea Ann Kuth and Donald Smith; 12 great-grandchildren, Matthew, Kristina, Jamie, Shawn, Travis, Martin, Brittany, Zane, Zack, J.J., Elizabeth and Shelby; six step-great-grandchildren; four step-great-great grandchildren; three nieces who were like grandchildren, Nancy, Patty and Linda, and numerous other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
<B>BEATTY</B> — Friends of Margaret Ioan Beatty, who died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Pamela Gardner, pastor of Slippery Rock United Methodist Church, officiating.
