INDIANA, Pa. — William Speidel III has been appointed vice president for University Advancement at Indiana (Pa.) University.Speidel joined IUP in February 2011 as associate vice president for development and has been leading the Division of University Relations since August.In his new role, he is responsible for the fundraising program, including annual giving, major gifts, donor relations and athletics giving. Private gifts to the university have averaged $5.2 million per year for the past three years.Speidel also will oversee the Office of Alumni Relations and the Advancement Services.Speidel came to IUP from UPMC's Passavant Hospital Foundation, where he was director of development from 2009 to 2011.He served Butler County Community College for 14 years as vice president for Institutional Advancement and executive director of the college's BC3 Education Foundation.Speidel earned his bachelor's degree from Slippery Rock University and his master's of business administration from Clarion University.He and his wife, Barbara, are the parents of four adult children.

EMLENTON, Venango County — The Farmers National Bank of Emlenton has hired Ray Swigart as an independent community banker.Swigart will be responsible for aiding in the development of new business relationships in Butler, Mercer and surrounding counties.He most recently was the vice president of commercial banking officer at First National Bank of Pennsylvania.He has more than 30 years of banking experience.Swigart attended the Pennsylvania State University. He is a graduate of the Central Atlantic School of Commercial Lending and of the Pennsylvania Bankers Association School of Banking, both at Bucknell University.2 men are finalists for business awardTwo Butler County men have been named finalists for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2012 award in the Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia region.They are Michael Robb, executive director of the Center for Community Resources, and John Sell, president of the Wayne W. Sell Corp.The award will be presented June 22 in Pittsburgh.

Bob Bowers of Butler has been elected to serve as the Region 2 director of the Pennsylvania State Snowmobile Association, made up of Butler, Beaver, Allegheny, Mercer, Venango and Lawrence counties.
