Harold Lewis Bauman

Harold Lewis Bauman, 88, of 125 Younkins Drive, Buffalo Township, died at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday at Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Jefferson Township while in the company of family members. He formerly lived in Saxonburg.

Born in Saxonburg, Aug. 2, 1916, he was the son of Edward L. "Jim" and Linda E. Bickett Bauman.

He was a member and former elder of Freeport United Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Bauman retired in 1979 as a millwright at PPG Research in Harmar. He also worked for C. Homer Craig Heating & Cooling in Freeport for a number of years.

During World War II, he was a technical sergeant in the Army Air Force. He was a radio operator in Baseborn, England, participated in the invasion of Normandy and performed in the Army War Show Band and the 176 Field Artillery Band. He was honored with several medals.

He played the trombone and harmonica and enjoyed outdoor activities, traveling, splitting wood, volleyball and skating.

He was a member of the Freeport and Natrona Heights Volunteer Fire departments and a former member of the Saxonburg Fireman's Club and band.

Mr. Bauman always made friends wherever he went and is truly loved by his family.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Ruth R. Clark Bauman; three daughters, Karen (Himanshu) Shah of North Hills, Betty (Chuck Baldwin) Bauman of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Carol (Brian) Arsenault of Virginia Beach, Va.; a son, James (Cookie) Bauman of Kennesaw, Ga.; a sister, Dorothy (Charles) Hartig of Natrona Heights; two brothers, Dale (Ann) Bauman of Natrona Heights and Arthur (Joanne) Bauman of Ormond Beach, Fla.

He also is survived by six grandchildren, Justin Shah of Breckenridge, Colo., Briana and Kinnu Shah of North Hills and Grant, Nicole and Lindsey Arsenault of Virginia Beach.

A daughter, June Bauman; and a sister, Eleanor Hensell, preceded him in death.

<B>BAUMAN</B> - Friends of Harold Lewis Bauman, who died Wednesday received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at REDMOND FUNERAL HOME, 524 High Street, Freeport. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Freeport United Presbyterian Church, with Rev. William Mumaw officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by VFW Post 894 will be at Sarverville Cemetery, Sarver.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice 3500 Brooktree Road, Suite 320, Greensburg, PA 15601; or Freeport United Presbyterian Church, 411 High St., Freeport, PA 16229.
