Butler bowlers top Armstrong
In a showdown between the top two boys teams in WPIBL Section 2, Butler dominated Armstrong with a 7-0 sweep at Family Bowlaway on Wednesday.
The Golden Tornado are now tied with Armstrong atop the section standings.
Nick Huff led Butler (8-1 overall) with a 651 series and 275 game. Matt Wetzel added a 611 and 212.
Armstrong won the girls' match 5-2. Ashley McCue rolled a 535 series for Butler (6-3) and Mercedes Belch had a 520 series and single game of 203.
Wrestling
Seneca Valley defeated Connellsville 36-29 in a WPIAL Class AAA first-round playoff match at Belle Vernon High School.
The Raiders then lost to the host Leopards 57-9 in a quarterfinal match.
Kiski Area 58, Butler 15 — The Golden Tornado were unable to match up with the No. 2 seeded Cavaliers.
Christian Sequete earned a pin for Butler at 170 pounds, while Scott Dietrich (145), Caleb Baxter (152) and Hank Finan (160) each won by decision.
Knoch 63, Highlands 6 — The Knights cruised to this win over the Golden Rams, with Hunter Oskin, Asher Jasmin, Mitch Walter, Lucas Laughner, Brandon Yobst, Nick Helfer and Cameron Ashton all winning by fall.
