4:48 p.m. Tuesday — Richard J. Dortman, 56, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after a two-vehicle crash at New Castle and Cunningham streets. No injuries were reported. Police said DUI charges are pending.

June 1 — Daniel N. Mukaabya, 30, of Oakland Township was charged with having a suspected crack pipe last week while officers patrolled what police have identified as a high-crime area known for drug activity.

Police said they initially spotted Mukaabya about 8:30 p.m. May 27 walking between houses in the area of West Cunningham and Pillow streets. He got into a car and drove down Pillow Street. He subsequently made a turn, without using his signals, and parked.

Officers approached him in the vehicle, according to court documents, and noticed a crack pipe in his front pants pocket.

He is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and failing to use turn signals.

Police in two unrelated cases, both on the same day last month, charged Mukaabya with having drugs and other contraband.

On May 16, documents said, patrol officers about 3 a.m. found him unconscious on the ground on West Diamond Street across from the Butler County Government Center. He appeared to be under the influence of drugs.

Mukaabya complained of leg pain and Butler Ambulance Service was called. Before he got into the ambulance, documents said, officers saw a crack pipe in one of his pockets.

He is charged in that case with possession of drug paraphernalia and public drunkenness.

Later that night, police found him in the 300 block of Center Avenue allegedly high on drugs. A search of his car, police said, turned up six stamp bags of suspected heroin and a used syringe.

[naviga:h3]Adams Twp Police[/naviga:h3]

8:53 a.m. Monday — Kathryn M. Tishey, 35, of Valencia was arrested for suspected drugged driving after her rental car nearly struck a guardrail on Mars Valencia Road. Police eventually stopped the defendant on Marshall Way in Mars.

While following Tishey into Mars, police said her car crossed over the solid yellow lines three times. She also was exceeding the speed limit by 15 mph.

Police suspected she was impaired but they did not smell any alcohol, according to court documents. She subsequently failed field sobriety tests and was taken to UPMC Passavant Cranberry for a blood test. Toxicology results are pending.

Tishey was arraigned on charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, disregarding traffic lanes and speeding, and later released on $5,000 unsecured bail.

[naviga:h3]Buffalo Twp Police[/naviga:h3]

Monday — Police charged David M. Bramini, 35, of Buffalo Township with stealing five different prescription medications last month from his uncle’s home in the 200 block of Ekastown Road.

In all, according to court documents, Bramini stole 203 pills valued at a combined $559.54. Among the medication taken were 128 oxycodone pills, six OxyContin pills and nine Hysinglas pills. All three drugs are used to treat severe pain.

Police during their investigation spoke to Bramini, who admitted he stole the pills from his uncle. He is charged with five misdemeanor counts each of theft and receiving stolen property.

Wednesday — Heather M. Crawford, 34, of Butler was charged in connection with a shoplifting incident last month at the Walmart at Butler Commons. Police said she failed to pay for $244 worth of clothing May 23.

Crawford is charged with misdemeanor retail theft.

4:19 p.m. May 28 — Both drivers were hurt in a two-vehicle wreck on Old Plank Road near Litman Road. Police said the crash happened when Francis S. Myers, 68, of Butler fell asleep at the wheel while rounding a bend in the road.

Myers’ car crossed into the opposing lane and collided with a vehicle driven by Robert Gigliotti, 47, of Butler. Myers suffered a cut to his head and Gigliotti had a minor injury to his back, according to a police report.

Myers was cited for careless driving, disregarding traffic lanes and failing to keep right.

[naviga:h3]Middlesex Twp Police[/naviga:h3]

Monday — Ryan D. Breen, 29, of Pittsburgh was charged with having a suspected marijuana grinder and pipe following a traffic stop May 27 at Sandy Hill and Kyle roads. He was stopped, police said, for failing to come to a complete stop at a stop sign.

While speaking to Breen, according to court documents, the officer smelled the odor of burned marijuana coming from the vehicle. He also noticed what appeared to be a marijuana grinder in the center console. Breen also turned over a marijuana pipe.

He is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and a stop sign violation.

[naviga:h3]Butler County Detectives[/naviga:h3]

Tuesday — Kody C. Myers, 19, of Buffalo Township was charged with trying to cheat on a drug test last month.

Detectives said Myers, who is under supervision by Butler County juvenile court services, was caught May 30 with a small, plastic mouthwash bottle filled with “clean urine.” The bottle was hidden under his clothes.

He is charged with attempting to furnish drug-free urine.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Butler[/naviga:h3]

Tuesday — Michael K. Helmstaedter, 32, of Butler Township was charged with drunken driving in connection with a traffic stop last month in Butler Township.

Police said they stopped him about 12:10 a.m. May 26 after he momentarily blinded them with his high beams at Greenwood Drive and South Benbrook Road. He reeked of alcohol and appeared impaired, according to court documents.

Helmstaedter was arrested after failing field sobriety tests. A breath test later showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.125 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

He is charged with driving under the influence, careless driving and not using low beams.
