John E. Boofer

John E. Boofer, 88, of Parker, formerly of Chicora, passed away at 11:30 a.m. Monday at his home following a short illness.

He was born April 21, 1927, in West Sunbury to the late William Boofer and Aletha Early Boofer

He was a coal miner. He also worked for J.M. Beatty Automotive of Eau Claire and at Central Chemical in Butler as a truck driver.

He is survived by his son, John David “J.D.” Boofer of Parker; his daughters, Mary Jane and her husband, Frank Ealy, who were his caregivers for many years, of Bruin, Margaret “Peggy” and her husband, Robert Martin, of Valencia, Myrtle McClure of Parker, Mamie Utterback of Karns City and Elizabeth Boofer of Butler; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; his brother, Arthur Boofer and his wife, Frances, of West Sunbury; and his sisters, Doris Snell of Hermitage and Linda Claypoole of Grove City.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Mary Catherine Claypoole Boofer and Cathy McClaine Boofer; his son, Howard “Jake” Boofer; his daughter, Frances “Bobbie” Blystone; three sisters, Jane Spiker, Pearl Claypoole and Margaret “Peg” Bowser; and his brother, Benjamin Boofer.

BOOFER — Friends of John E. Boofer, who died Monday, Dec. 14, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, 111 E. Slippery Rock St., Chicora. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jim Lewis officiating.
