USIS exec resigns
The president of investigations services at U.S. Investigations Services, which has offices in Boyers and Grove City, has resigned.
Johnny Tharp resigned earlier this month after being prevented from working on background checks contracted by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, reports said.
In January, the U.S. Department of Justice filed a federal complaint against USIS for allegedly defrauding the government by releasing at least 665,000 incomplete background checks to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management between 2008 and 2012.
The complaint alleges that the company, based in Falls Church, Va., did not do quality control checks on investigations for about 40 percent of investigations during that time period.
The complaint also said that management at the company was aware of the incomplete investigations.
The company was involved in the background checks for National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden and Aaron Alexis, a defense contractor who killed 12 people last year at the Washington Navy Yard.
Tharp started at USIS in 2003 and became the president of the division in September 2012, according to his LinkedIn account. The account shows that he stopped working at USIS this month.
His attorney, Christopher Mead, did not return a call requesting comment.
Michael Logan is the new president of the division, according to USIS’s website. He started at USIS in 2004, and was the vice president of field operations at the division before becoming the president.
USIS has an office in Boyers and two offices in Grove City. Those offices employ a total of 1,500 of the company’s 6,000 workers.
