Barbara (Sprenger) Karwand

Barbara (Sprenger) Karwand, 81, most recently of Forest Lake, Minn., passed away peacefully Feb. 26.

She was born in Lake City, Minn., March 24, 1936, to Esther and Joyce Springer of Zumbro Falls.

Barb graduated from Abbott School of Nursing in Minneapolis in 1957 and worked as a nurse for many years in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.

She married Elwood Karwand in Zumbro Falls in 1957 and celebrated 50 years of marriage before Elwood's death in 2008.

Barb was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Red Wing and had an eclectic array of interests. She had music in her soul, spending her life singing in church choir, as well as with school and community choral groups. Rarely was she not humming or whistling.

She loved sewing, baking and reading and spending countless hours sharing these talents with others. She was always one to step in and help others, whatever the circumstance.

Barb was a soft-spoken, sweet lady, who will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her son, Eldon (Lynne) Karwand of Center City, Minn.; her daughters, Kim (Brian) Burke-Phillipp of Brooklyn Center, Minn., and Colleen (Robert) Elliott of Sturgeon Bay, Wisc.; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elwood; her sister, Judy; and a daughter, Kaye.

KARWAND — A memorial service for Barbara (Sprenger) Karwand, who died Monday, Feb. 26, 2018, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 21, 2018, at First United Methodist Church in Red Wing, Minn., with the Rev. Clay Oglesbee officiating.Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church.Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
