Denise Lynne Geiwitz Whiting
Denise Lynne Geiwitz Whiting, 58, of Slippery Rock, formerly of Volant, passed away at 4 a.m. Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Bridget, in Edinburg. She was called into heaven when the Good Lord punched her ticket.
Her biggest accomplishments in life were her grandchildren, and she never shied away from a battle.
Denise was born Feb. 14, 1956, at Mercer Cottage Hospital in Mercer to Arlene Lytle Geiwitz and the late Lawrence Andrew “Tony” Geiwitz.
She graduated from Wilmington High School in 1974. Denise retired from the New Castle Post Office as a mail carrier after many years.
She was involved with the community youth softball league as a coach and umpire. Denise was an agricultural enthusiast and involved in founding the Mid-Atlantic Milking Shorthorn Society. She was very active in the Beaver-Lawrence County Dairy Promotion for several years. In 1996, she became a director of the All-American Dairy Show and in September 2013, she was honored with the Image Award that is voted on by her peers for the outstanding promotion of the All-American Dairy Show.
Her passion was her farm, Designer Gene’s, and showing at the county, state and national dairy cattle shows. She also served on the board of the Farmers Cheese Co-op in New Wilmington.
She was a member of Leesburg ECO Presbyterian Church and had previously been a member of Pulaski Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Maggie Lynne Whiting of Pulaski, Bridget Renee Yannesse and her husband, Steven, of Edinburg, Jessica May Kennedy and her husband, Jason, of Cochranton, and Lane Allyson Dess and her husband, Michael, of Slippery Rock; her mother, Arlene Lytle Geiwitz of Hermitage; her companion, Jim Reed of Slippery Rock; four sisters, Brenda Lee Watson and her husband, David, of Hermitage, Joy Lane Turner and her husband, Paul, of Ohiopyle, Kathy Sue Kline and her husband, Mark, of Carlton, and Beth Carlene Hillmar and her fiance, Bill Wright, of Mercer; her brother, Larry Dane Geiwitz and his wife, Rhoda, of Volant; four granddaughters, Kara Lane Yannesse, Callie Maxine Whiting, Olivia Frances Kennedy and Lydia Denise Kennedy; four grandsons, Andrew David Gerber, Seth Garrett Whiting, Marc Alfredo Whiting and Sawyer Jason Kennedy; numerous nieces and nephews; and her former husband, David Whiting of Pulaski.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Whiting — The family of Denise Lynne Geiwitz Whiting, who passed away Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014, will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Smith Funeral Home, Village of Leesburg, 1778 Perry Hwy., Volant.Additional visitation will be from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Thomas Gomola, pastor of Leesburg ECO Presbyterian Church, presiding.Denise's favorite charity was St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
