Michael 'Mike' Kasarda

Michael “Mike” Kasarda, Colonel, U.S. Air Force, retired, 90, of Saxonburg passed away Thursday at VNA Inpatient Hospice, Butler.

He was born on Nov. 28, 1923, in Ohio, the son of the late Paul and Mary Goda Kasarda.

Mike was a 30-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a colonel. He served in World War II, Korea, Vietnam and the Belgian Congo, in which he received more than 17 medals. He also flew with the Thunderbirds and the 82nd Airborne at Fort Brag, all of which he did after graduating from Duquesne University.

Most importantly, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.

Surviving are his wife, Edith Kasarda; his two daughters, Melissa Kasarda and Rebecca Kasarda of Saxonburg; his granddaughter, Mariyah; his sister, Mary Ann Kasarda-Dickerson of Indianapolis; and his many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, the Rev. John Kasarda and Colonel Paul Kasarda.

Kasarda — The friends of Michael “Mike” Kasarda, who passed away Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Young Funeral Home, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler.Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, 105 Kohler Ave., Lyndora.
