Shirley Gilmore

Shirley L. Gilmore, 82, of Kittanning Hollow Road, East Brady, Sugarcreek Township, Armstrong County, entered into her heavenly reward early Monday morning while surrounded by her children at Clarion Hospital.

Shirley was born on Jan. 18, 1936, in Sandy Hollow, near Rimersburg. She was the daughter of the late Harry F. and Bernice Burford Reitz and was raised by her older sister and brother-in-law, Millie and John Wiles.

She was a 1954 graduate of East Brady High School and was a longtime active member of St. Paul's Community Church in Chicora.

She was a homemaker and especially enjoyed the company of her family.

In her earlier years, she taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir.

Mrs. Gilmore enjoyed oil painting and crossword puzzles, was an avid reader, and most recently enjoyed watching “Ninja Warriors” on television, especially cheering on the lady warriors.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Allan Gilmore, whom she married on June 18, 1955. She was a loving and supportive Army wife for 22 years.

Also surviving are three children, Kim Patsy and her husband, Dave, of East Brady, Kay Griffiths and her husband, Willis, of Chicora, and Ray “Ike” Gilmore of Bruin; seven grandchildren, Cara Patsy of Youngstown, Ohio, Brady Patsy of Pittsburgh, Hailey Patsy of East Brady, Heather Powers and her husband, Steve, of Chicora, Bradley Griffiths of Chicora, Bryce Gilmore and his wife, Megan, and Kylee Bell and her husband, Shayne, all of Butler; six great-grandchildren, Caroline Patsy, Kaiden Powers, Cambree Powers, Zachary Gilmore, Zander Gilmore and Myles Bell; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ellis Reitz; and five sisters, Ruby Wray, Geraldine Gilmore, Dorothy Wiles, Millie Wiles and Elizabeth “Betty” Crosbie; two nephews, Richard Gilmore and Tim Wiles, with whom she was raised; a niece, Mary Lou Brinkley; as well as a number of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

GILMORE — Friends of Shirley L. Gilmore, who died Monday, Oct. 8, 2018, will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Road, Chicora.Additional visitation will be held from noon until 1 p.m. Friday at St. Paul's Community Church, 2167 Route 268, Chicora, where a funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Jonathan J.
