George B. Brown Jr.

George B. Brown Jr., 88, of Cranberry Township died Friday at UPMC Passavant Hospital, McCandless Township.

Born April 22, 1921, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late George B. and Mollie (Dailey) Brown Sr.

Mr. Brown was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Lovi in Cranberry Township, where he was a former Sunday school teacher.

He was a World War II Army veteran, a member of the Cranberry Township VFW Post 879 and a volunteer at VA Butler Healthcare.

Mr. Brown also was a member of the Cranberry Genealogy Club, the Cranberry Township Historical Society and Silver Sneakers of Cranberry. He painted murals for the all- school musicals in the Seneca Valley School District, and he was an avid gardener, artist and photographer.

He attended the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Tech. He loved to travel with his friends and enjoyed reading and the outdoors.

He is survived by his son, Rex B. Brown and his wife, Kathie Lee, of Harmony; his daughter, Carol L. Brown and her partner, Ann Smith of Coatesville, Pa.; and a sister, Mabert L. Grover of Fruitland Park, Fla.

Also surviving are three granddaughters, Heather Sparr (Robert) of Gibsonia, Mollie McCormick (Kevin) of State College, and Mandi Meyer (Jason) of Butler; eight great-grandchildren, Joel, Isabelle and Yabsira Sparr and Benjamin, Kassie, Emily, Sara and Jessica Meyer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, E. Jean (Alexander) Brown, who died Sept. 14, 2004, and his brother, James T. Brown.

Brown Jr., who died Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at <B>Glenn-Kildoo Funeral Home and Cremation Services</B>, 130 Wisconsin Ave., Cranberry Township. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Sparr and Pastor William Steel officiating.
