Lee Keiler Raup
Lee Keiler Raup of DeLand, Fla., passed away quietly on Nov. 24, 2015, at the Florida Hospital Fish Memorial Hospice Center in Orange City, Fla.
Born on Dec. 20, 1921, in Wilkinsburg, Pa., he was the son of Levi and Olive Lang Raup. Lee graduated from Indiana State University in 1942 with a bachelor's degree in music education.
He immediately entered the military and served with the 44th Division of the U.S. Army. He served in World War II and spent the majority of his service in France. He recently was awarded the French Legion of Honor Medal from the French government for service rendered to the French people during the German Occupation.
Following the war, Lee began his career as a music director at Brentwood, Pa., later teaching in Karns City from 1953 to 1968 and finishing his career in Renovo, Pa., from 1968 to 1978. He retired after 30 years of teaching and directing both instrumental and choral music, but remained in the Army Reserves, serving in various capacities until 1981, retiring with the rank of major.
Lee had many interests: music, fishing, photography, growing orchids in Florida and producing maple syrup in Pennsylvania. He also loved camping, and spending summers in Knox, Pa., with family and friends.
Lee was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of DeLand for 27 years, working as an elder, a deacon, moderator of the Property Committee, a painter for Habitat for Humanity and faithful worker for Inter-Faith Kitchen as well as serving on the church ushering team.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Ruth Bogardus, Mary Long and Richard Raup.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Linda McCollough Raup; his son, Vaughn L. Raup and wife, Kimberly Raup, of Edinboro, Pa.; his daughter, Sheri Palladino of Hixson, Tenn.; and grandchildren, Samuel Palladino and Gabrielle Palladino of Tennessee. He also is survived by one sister, Carol Maxwell of Pittsburgh, and numerous nieces and nephews.
RAUP — A memorial service for Lee Keiler Raup, who died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015, is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at the McEntire-Weaver Funeral Home in Knox, Pa.V.E.T.S.
