John E. Hetrick

John E. "Jack" Hetrick, 67, of Route 268, Chicora, Sugarcreek Township, Armstrong County, died unexpectedly at 10:02 p.m. Thursday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Butler on Nov. 24, 1942. He was the son of the late John E. Hetrick and Josephine Kelly Hetrick Moore.

He was a 1963 graduate of Karns City High School, and he was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Mr. Hetrick was an active, longtime member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chicora. He was a trustee of the church cemetery board, had been a member of church council, and had been an assisting minister. He was a volunteer for the local ministerium's summer lunch program as well as Katie's Kitchen in Butler, Meals on Wheels, and the Compeer Program of Butler, sponsored by the Butler County Mental Health and Mental Retardation program.

In his earlier years, he was employed by the Logan Candy Co. of Butler, and he retired in 2004 after 30 years with Penreco in Karns City. Following his retirement, he drove a minibus for the Shriver Bus Co.

He enjoyed walking, visiting, and the company of his family and friends. He especially enjoyed taking his grandchildren for ice cream. He was the family historian, always remembering birthdays and family accomplishments.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Aileene Umstead Hetrick, who he married at Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church on Oct. 27, 1967.

Also surviving are son, John Hetrick and his fiance, Susan Stilts, of New Bethlehem; two daughters, Sheila D. Waldroup and her husband, Shawn, of Rimersburg, and Crystal Callender and her husband, Thomas, of Parker; three grandchildren, Nacole A. Hetrick Cook and her husband, Roy, of Butler, and Kevin M. and Alisha J. Callender, both of Parker; a great-grandson, Jamarcus R.J. Cook of Butler; three sisters, Lucy Dollar and her husband, John, of Butler; Joanne Taylor and her husband, Terry, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Kay Riley and her husband, Mike, of Chicora; and two brothers, Charles D. Hetrick and his wife, Alice, of Chicora, and Terry L. Moore and his wife, Kathy, of Chicora. Also surviving are a number of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James C. and Alice Jackson Kelly, who helped raise him; his mother and father-in-law, Ernest and Florence Umstead; stepfathers, Robert Moore and LeRoy Moore; and two brothers-in-law, Dick McGowan and Robert Slater.

<B>HETRICK</B>— Friends of John E. Hetrick will be received from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Hile Funeral Home</B>, 339 Chicora-Fenelton Rd, Chicora, and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 22177 Chicora Rd., Chicora. Funeral services will follow at the church. Interment will be in Mt.
