Richard W. Oesterling

Richard Warren Oesterling, 84, a 23-year resident of Worthing, S.D., died Nov. 22 at the home of his daughter in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Born June 25, 1921, in Butler, he was the son of' Warren L. and Mary Kehm Oesterling.

He was raised in Butler and was a graduate of Butler High School.

Mr. Oesterling served overseas as a radar technician in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of the Worthing American Legion.

He had lived in various parts of the eastern United States, where he worked as a pipe fitter in the petroleum industry.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an accomplished woodworker.

Surviving are his wife, M. Irene Landgraf Oesterling, whom he married Aug. 12, 1941, in Wellsburg, W.Va.; five children, Cindy Drew of Sioux Falls, Edward Oesterling of Emery, S.D., Tim Oesterling of Mitchell, S.D., Russ Oesterling of Pima, Ariz., and Deny Oesterling of Tacoma, Wash.; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are his siblings, Madaline Golec and Jack Oesterling, both of Butler.

A sister, a grandson, and a granddaughter preceded him in death.

OESTERLING — Friends of Richard Warren Oesterling, who died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005, were Monday at DINDOT-KLUSMANN CHAPEL, Lennox, S.D., Burial was at Worthing Cemetery in South Dakota.Military rites were accorded by the Worthing American Legion Post 177.
