Dean Leroy Rider

Dean Leroy Rider, 90, of Boyers, Cherry Township, passed away at his home at 8:15 a.m. Thursday.

He was born April 4, 1922, in West Sunbury to Samuel Edgar Rider and Clara Snyder Rider.

He married Pearl Martha Halasy Rider, his wife for more than 67 years, on June 2, 1945.

Mr. Rider retired from ARMCO, now AK Steel, of Butler.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran and enjoyed working on his farm, gardening and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church, Cherry Township, where he had served as elder, clerk of session and treasurer for many years.

Surviving are his wife, Pearl M. Rider of Boyers; four sons, Larry D. Rider of Boyers, Donald B. and his wife, Jan, Rider of Boyers, Dennis L. and his wife, Virginia “Ginger,” Rider of Grove City and Richard A. and his wife, Pam, Rider of Boyers; and two sisters, Marie E. Rider of Parker and Lois Hollenbeck of Pittsburgh. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Verne.

RIDER — Services for Dean Leroy Rider, who passed away Thursday, July 12, 2012, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. The Rev. G. Kenton Shaw, retired pastor from Grove City, will officiate.Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The interment will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, West Sunbury.Memorial contributions can be made to Pleasant Valley Cemetery, c/o Doris Farren, 147 Pleasant Valley Road, West Sunbury.
