Warrants issued for fire suspect

FAIRVIEW TWP — State police have obtained arrest warrants for an East Brady man who is suspected this summer of setting a pair of fires, one that destroyed a youth center's maintenance garage and equipment shed in this township.

Sabatino A. Marano, 18, also allegedly vandalized a clubhouse at the same Petroleum Valley Youth Center.

Police suspect Marano a day earlier torched a junk car behind the Chicora Fire Hall.

Meanwhile, investigators have identified Marano as a suspect in a third fire that damaged a garage on Kittanning Street in Chicora, not far from the fire hall.

The vehicle and garage fires came within hours of each other Aug. 10.

District Judge Lewis Stoughton last week issued the warrants for Marano's arrest.

Police believe the defendant along with a 17-year-old boy on Aug. 11 caused the fires at youth center on secluded Magnolia Road.

The maintenance garage fire destroyed that garage that contained tractors, mowers and other lawn equipment.

The blaze also destroyed the storage shed that contained uniforms and equipment for the Karns City Football League.

The damage caused by the fire exceeded $70,000, police said.
