Defendant in threat case has probation ended early

A Saxonburg man, who was charged with threatening to kill a police officer on Facebook following a traffic stop, had his probation terminated in Butler County Court Friday.

The motion for early termination was filed by the Butler County Adult Probation Office, stating that Andrew Devlin, 40, had satisfactorily complied with all the conditions of supervision and sentence and had served at least half of the maximum sentence.

Judge William Shaffer approved the motion.

Devlin had been sentenced to 18 months of probation on Feb. 27, 2017, after pleading guilty to misdemeanor terroristic threats.

He was initially charged with two counts of terroristic threats after he stated “I will murder a cop” on the social media site after he was pulled over by a Saxonburg police officer for failing to stop at a stop sign.

Devlin was stopped again in the borough later for not having a valid inspection sticker. During the second traffic stop, the borough police officer realized Devlin had his registration issue corrected but had not yet had the car inspected. The officer issued Devlin a warning.

A short time later it was discovered Devlin had made multiple postings to his Facebook account commenting on the two traffic stops, according to court documents.

He was arrested and later released on $100,000 bail.

First Assistant District Attorney Patricia McLean said she was not opposed to the early termination, as Devlin had completed all the conditions of the sentence. Devlin said Friday that he intends to continue with his mental health treatment.
