Emerson Reid Morrison

Emerson Reid Morrison of Worthington died Saturday at Meadowlake Manor in Sugarcreek Township.

Born Oct. 10, 1921 at Timblin in Jefferson County, he was the husband of Mary Marjorie (Marge) Morrison, who died in 2003, and the son of the late Ralph and Gwennie (Davis) Morrison. Reid and Marge had four children, three of whom died at or soon after birth.

Reid was a truck driver, railroad worker and heavy equipment operator for several local firms prior to his retirement.

He worked for the Graff-Kittanning Clay Products and various local mining companies.

Reid was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army from 1944 through 1946 in the Pacific.

He served in the Philippines and with the occupation forces in Japan before being discharged as a staff sergeant with the Combat Infantryman's Badge and several campaign ribbons.

Reid was a member of the Craigsville Methodist Church, a past member of the Worthington Lions Club and a longtime member of the American Legion.

He had served as the Post Commander of the Worthington American Legion Post 828 and as District Vice Commander of American Legion District 27.

Reid also was a County Commander of the American Legion Honor Guard for Armstrong County for many years.

He was a dedicated patriot who loved his country.

Surviving are his daughter Gwennie and her husband Frank Williams of Hanover, Md.; four grandchildren, Pamela Armstrong of Pittsburgh, Randy Williams of Chesapeake, Va., Michael Williams of Florence, S.C., and Jeffrey Williams of Crofton, Md.

Reid's sister, Margaret Thompson, and his brothers William, David, Leroy and Samuel are deceased. He also had an infant brother who died six days after birth.

Also surviving are several nieces and nephews; two brothers-in-law, the Rev. Earl Watterson of Worthington and Clarence Watterson of Manorville; and a sister-in-law, Emma Jean Buzzard of Cape Coral, Fla.

<B>MORRISON — </B>Friends of Emerson Reid Morrison, who died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>F. DUANE SNYDER FUNERAL HOME</B>, 119 Bear St., Worthington, PA 16201. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with additional visitation at 10 a.m. The Rev. Jeremy Andrews is officiating. Burial will follow at Worthington Presbyterian Cemetery.
