Butler man charged with threatening DMV worker

A Butler man was charged following an investigation into alleged threats he made to the Department of Motor Vehicles and one of its employees.

Marquis S. Mcwhorter Honay, 26, was charged with felony terroristic threats for allegedly threatening the life of the employee overseeing his driver’s test Feb. 23 at the Butler office of the Department of Motor Vehicles.

The charges were filed by Butler Township Police Monday. Mcwhorter Honay has yet to be arraigned on the charges.

According to charging documents, Mcwhorter Honay was borrowing someone’s vehicle to take the test and was asked to turn on the headlights, but didn’t know how that vehicle’s headlights worked. The employee told police she went into the building to ask the vehicle’s owner about them.

The employee told police that while inside, she watched Mcwhorter Honay turn the lights on and begin to parallel park. She told police she went outside and confronted Mcwhorter Honay about driving without her in the vehicle.

“Mcwhorter Honay became irate and angry with (the employee’s) comments and started cursing at (her) and accusing her of sabotaging him,” said the investing officer in the affidavit.

The employee told officers Mcwhorter Honay rolled up the window, and she went back inside. She told police that as she went toward the building, Mcwhorter Honay "sped toward“ her before parking in the middle of the road.

Police said the employee continued to hand over the documents. Police said Mcwhorter Honay exited the vehicle and yelled at the employee that he would shoot her and hurt her in other ways.

Another employee who witnessed the incident said Mcwhorter Honay said he would “blow up the place" and "shoot up the place” and shoot the employee he had the confrontation with, police said.

Police said the DMV has since increased security.
