The Butler Area Public Library received a Keystone Grant through the Pennsylvania Department of Education for about $29,000, which will be used to update parts of the facility.

Lori Hinderliter, the library’s executive director, said the money will be used to replace flooring in the meeting room and redo the carpet in the children's room, and install automated doors at the entrance to the reference section on the second floor. The library will also get some new signage through the grant funding.

“We want to replace the flooring in our meeting room and carpet in our children's room, so it's safer for patrons to come in,” Hinderliter said.

Keystone Grants require dollar-to-dollar matching funds to qualify, Hinderliter said. The library has money in savings that allowed it to qualify for the grant.

It has been several years since the library received the grant, according to Hinderliter, but the city of Butler sponsored the library, so it could apply this year. Hinderliter said the city has always been supportive of the library.

“We did a lot of the background work,” she said. “It was a team effort.”
