H. Richard “Dick” Parker, 88, of Butler died Monday at Concordia Lutheran Ministries, Good Samaritan Hospice.

He was born on April 1, 1925, in Chicora, and was the son of the late Harry and Marie Hilderbrand Parker.

He was a turn foreman in the silicone department of Butler Armco, now AK Steel, retiring in 1982.

He was a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, a life member of the VFW, American Legion Post 117, and the Tanglewood Center, where he served as president for four years.

He was in the U.S. Navy serving as a torpedo man second class during World War II. His ship, DD 677 US McDermut, was in the largest Naval battle ever fought at Leyte Gulf, Philippine Islands.

He enjoyed hunting for 50 years and loved to go fishing in Canada.

Surviving are his children, Donna Montag of Grove City, Ohio, Joyce Voland and her husband, Carl, of Butler, Gay Parker of Centerville, Ohio, Rick Parker and his wife, Nancy, of Butler and Cindy Hoak and her husband, Mel, of Butler; his seven grandchildren; and his six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Bill Parker of Cerritos, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Winifred Ray Parker, who he married Nov. 27, 1947, and who died Aug. 3, 2005.

Richard “Dick” Parker, 88, of Butler who died Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, will be at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 127 Franklin St., Butler, from 9:20 to 10 a.m. Thursday.
