Assault, strangulation case against Butler man dropped

CHICORA — A Butler man's case involving felony charges has been withdrawn only a little more than a week after it was filed.

The prosecution withdrew charges against Cory D. Kuhrt, 28, in district court Tuesday. State police filed the charges May 17, and they included felony strangulation, misdemeanor simple assault and summary harassment.

According to charging documents, Kuhrt had been accused of choking and biting his wife while she drove them through Center Township.

According to Assistant District Attorney Terri Schultz, the wife attended court Tuesday and requested that the charges be dropped. Schultz said the wife was even willing to testify before District Judge Lewis Stoughton to relay this wish.

“The wife did not wish to pursue charges whatsoever,” Schultz said.

The withdrawing of the charges also will set Kuhrt free, who has been in Butler County Prison on $50,000 bond.

“It was a generous offer from the District Attorney's Office,” said Chief Public Defender Kevin Flaherty.
