Snow as deep as 8 inches was left on the ground Saturday following a winter storm that began late Friday night.

No power outages and only a few vehicle accidents resulted from the storm, which is expected to clear out and usher in warmer temperatures next week.

By late Saturday morning, weather watchers reported 7 1/2 inches of snow in Valencia, 7 inches in Cabot, 7 3/4 inches in Seven Fields, 6 inches a mile south of Butler and 8 inches in Butler, said Lee Hendricks, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh.

Scattered snow showers with a possible inch or two of additional accumulation and temperatures in the low 20s is in the forecast for Saturday afternoon and evening.

However, the temperature will drop to 10 degrees and winds will reach 30 miles per hour Saturday night.

“Overnight tonight, it’s going to be fairly brutal out there,” Hendricks said.

A 15-mile-per-hour wind combined with a temperature of 15 degrees results in a windchill of 0 degrees, Hendricks said. A 15-mile-per-hour wind with 11 degree temperatures produces a windchill of minus 5 degrees, he said.

Sunday brings a chance of snow and rain showers before temperatures climb into the 50s and 60s next week.
