Mary Alice Keefer, 88, of Butler, formerly of West Monterey, passed away Friday morning at the Concordia Health Center, Cabot, following an illness.

Born in West Monterey, Pa., on July 16, 1924, she was the daughter of the late George and Zula Williams Daubenspeck.

Mary Alice was a graduate of the former Emlenton High School.

She served in World War II with the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. She was honorably discharged with the rank of seaman first class and was awarded the Victory Medal and the American Campaign Medal.

Mrs. Keefer and her late husband, Claude, were long time members of the Park Hill Church of God at West Freedom. Following his passing, she moved to Butler and became active at the Hill United Presbyterian Church.

She enjoyed her time being a member of the Red Hat Ladies Group.

Surviving are a son, David G. Keefer and his wife, Francine, of Butler; a daughter, Diana Keefer McLucas of Raleigh, N.C.; four grandchildren, Jennifer McLucas, Julie Hagerman, Matthew Keefer and his wife, Reem, and Melanie Keefer; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one brother, Robert Jan Daubenspeck and his wife, Sheila, of Scotland.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Claude Keefer, who she married on June 28, 1948, and who passed away May 5, 2009. She was also preceded by a brother, George Daubenspeck, and a nephew.

KEEFER — Friends of Mary Alice Keefer, who passed away Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home, 201 S. Wayne Ave., Parker.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Korona Say, the Church of God pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at West Monterey Cemetery.
