High Adventure Night will be held at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at Preston Center at Camp Bucoco.All parents and youth interested in going on one of the Moraine Trails Council's treks to Philmont, Seabase, Jamboree or Northern Tier are invited to attend this important meeting.Experts in each of these treks will be on hand to answer questions and show what has to be done before each trek leaves. Moraine Trails Council, Boy Scouts of America conducted a special patriotic ceremony at Camp Bucoco honoring the heroes and victims of Sept. 11, 2001.The cornerstone of the ceremony was the dedication of three new flagpoles. The council flagpole - dedicated to fallen firefighters and emergency workers; the state flag pole - dedicated to fallen law enforcement officers; and the American flag pole - dedicated to fallen veterans.Representatives from the Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Department - Dave Taggert, Al Taggart, Ron Steele, Ken Harley, Doreen Taggart and Trish Caton; the City of Butler Fire Department - Chief Larry Christy and Kevin McAfee; State Police Trooper John Gray; North Apollo Police Department Chief Jack Wilmont; and, from the 19th Airborne Infantry, Lt. Col. Louis Gaston, were on hand and assisted with the dedication and memorial service.About 75 scouts, leaders and community members attended.The flagpoles were donated by Woodmen of the World, a fraternal benefit society.Zelienople's
Boy Scout Troop 457 held its summer Court of Honor Aug. 31 at Zelienople English Lutheran Church. The scouts were recognized for earning scouting ranks and a total of 191 merit badges. Most of the badges were earned by the 51 scouts who attended Camp Seph Mack in Penn Run, Indiana County, this summer.Scouts who earned their next rank in scouting were:Scouter -
