Magician’s show to raise money for Center Twp. Elementary
Last semester, Rick Smith Jr. amazed students at Center Township Elementary School during a school assembly with card-throwing tricks and illusions.
The magician and illusionist, featured on programs including “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” and “America’s Got Talent” and who holds a few world records for card throwing, will be at Butler Intermediate High School April 30 for a fundraiser for the elementary school.
Junelle Wisniewski, counselor at Center Township Elementary School, said the fundraiser show for the school’s positive behavior intervention and support program was originally planned for March 2020, a few months after Smith first performed at the school.
“We finally were able to reschedule, and we're excited it's going to happen,” Wisniewski said. “We will be able to use the funds to purchase things for the PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports) rewards.”
Wisniewski said Smith’s performance is for audiences of all ages, and describes Smith’s “Magic Gives Back” show as a Las Vegas-level performance of magic and illusion.
Tickets can be purchased at magicgivesback.com. A portion of the money earned through the show goes back to the host organization, in this case, Center Township Elementary School.
Wisniewski said Smith’s past performances at the school were scaled down compared to his usual productions, and the show April 30 will be bigger.
“When he performed here for the students it was just him,” Wisniewski said. “He'll come in and do magic and illusion, a Las Vegas-type show. He brings in his own crew and they set up a big show.”
