Fred Lewis Maihle
Fred Lewis Maihle, 92, of Meridian passed away at 2:50 a.m. Thursday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.
He was born on Jan. 12, 1923, in Cadiz, Ohio, to the late Allen Franklin Maihle and Bertha Edna Fague Maihle.
Mr. Maihle was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the invasions of Saipan and Iwo Jima as a staff sergeant during World War II.
He worked as a foreman at Fuellgraf Electric until his retirement in 1984.
Fred was a member of the Meridian Vets Club and the William H. Miller Lodge 769 F&AM, and was a former member of the Shriners, the Elks and the American Legion. He enjoyed farming, gardening and playing solitaire.
Mr. Maihle is survived by his three sons, Fred Maihle Jr. and his wife, Dianne, Thomas Maihle and his wife, Lori, and Frank Maihle and his wife, Renee; his three daughters, Mary Jane Macoskey and her husband, Eric, Karen Phipps and her husband, Mike, and Linda M. Maihle; his 11 grandchildren; his two brothers, Evan Maihle and his wife, Carol, of Jersey Shore, Pa., and Gene Maihle and his wife, June, of Tuscon, Ariz.; his sister, Thelma Ruth Stephenson of North Washington; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Ellen Zimmel Maihle, who he married on Aug. 11, 1956, and who passed away on Sept. 30, 2011; his four brothers, Carl Maihle, Rev. Allen “Pete” Maihle, Bert Maihle and H. Lynn Maihle; an infant brother; and his three sisters, Frieda, Louise and Betty.
The family would like to thank the Butler Memorial Hospital ICU staff and VNA Inpatient Hospice staff who made his last days peaceful.
