Pauline Manning
Pauline M. Manning, 61, of Butler died Friday at Alleg-heny University Hospital, Alleg-heny General, in Pittsburgh after a long illness.
Born March 2, 1945, in Butler, she was a daughter of Harry and Margaret Bowser Swory.
For more than 30 years, she was a member of the Butler Citadel of the Salvation Army, where she belonged to the Home League and was a volunteer in the mobile canteen and the food bank.
She enjoyed crocheting and bowling, was a past president of the Church Bowling League and had been a coach for the Youth Bowling League for 15 years. She also like to play bingo and the slots.
Mrs. Manning, who had worked in retail sales and merchandising for years, worked at the Ames Department Store for more than seven years and at the Butler Wal-Mart for more than five years, where she had the opportunity to touch many lives.
Another thing that brought joy to her life was spending time with her sisters.
She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Surviving are two sons, Daniel Manning and his wife, Denise, and Patrick Manning, and his wife, Shelly, all of Butler; five daughters, Lori Codispot and her companion, Ed Gallagher, of Butler, Beth Manning of Virginia, Becky Manning and her companion, José Gonzalez, and Pollie Fife and her husband, Travis Fife, all of Butler, and Tammy Smith of Parker; three brothers, Dewayne Swory and his wife, Donna, of Washington, Terry Swory and his wife, Linli, of China and Wesley Gibson of California; four sisters, Mrs. Paul (Sue) Crispin of East Butler, Mrs. Dave (Brenda) Freehling of Ohio, Mrs. Bill (Melody) Williams of Butler and Teresa Johnson of Ohio; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Swory of Butler.
She was the devoted grandmother to Trina, Daniel, Regis, James, David G., Amanda, David F., Kimberly, Vicki, Leigh, Kristen, Raymond, CheyAnne and Shane; and the great-grandmother of Antonio, Aiden and Levi.
Also surviving are several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Her husband, John R. Manning, whom she married July 15, 1977, died Oct. 13, 1999. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Jack Swory; and two grandsons, Jimmy Harvey and Joshua Manning.
<B>MANNING </B>—<B> </B>Friends of Pauline M. Manning, who died Friday, Sept. 1, 2006, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Huber, pastor of the North Street Christian Church, officiating.
