‘Eggstravaganza' coming to Mars Area
Spring soon will sprout at the Mars Athletic Complex.
The Mars Area High School Student Council plans to hold a “Spring Eggstravaganza” event on April 3 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The free event will feature an egg hunt, games, crafts, activities and a visit from the Easter Bunny. The festivities will be ongoing during the three-hour event. Parents are asked to bring their own bags for their children to participate in the egg hunt.
Student Council adviser Meghan Boland said the students wanted to host a spring event after their usual winter Cookies with Santa event was postponed due to COVID-19.
“With things being kind of uncertain this year, we held off on doing that for another year just so things could normalize from COVID,” she said. “Our student council kids wanted to host some kind of fun spring event for the community. They came up with this idea of doing kind of a (combined) Easter and spring event.”
At the event, students also will collect donations for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
“Any event that Student Council does, we try to have something that is fun but that will give us an opportunity to make a difference in the community too,” Boland added.
Parents are invited to RSVP in advance for the event through a Google form posted on the Mars Area School District website.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Boland said 315 children were signed up for the event.
“Because of the response we’ve gotten so far using that RSVP link, we’ve even recruited some help with some other clubs at the high school,” Boland said. “The National Honor Society members are helping out, and we have sent out the call for other clubs at our high school, and they are chipping in to help as well.”
There will be no rain date for the event, Boland added. If weather looks questionable, the Student Council group will make a decision by Saturday, April 2, and will update attendees on the district website.
