Betty Jane Vargo

Betty Jane Vargo, 85, of Orchard Manor in Grove City, formerly of Butler and Hooker, died Tuesday at the Grove City Medical Center.

Born Sept. 21, 1920, in Butler, she was daughter of Glenn Mahan and Amelia Kornrumph Mahan Schwartz.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed reading the Butler Eagle and embroidering.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Clair (Barbara) Jewart of Hooker, Mrs. Kenneth (Sandra) Smith of Butler and Mrs. Roger (Tammie) Grossman of New Hope; two sons, Glenn and Larry Vargo, both of Butler; 16 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael G. Vargo, who died in 1972; a daughter; four sisters; a brother; and two stepsisters.

VARGO — Friends of Betty Jane Vargo, who died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the WILLIAM F. YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 132 Main St., West Sunbury. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home at with the Rev. Mary Sickels, pastor of North Butler Presbyterian Church, officiating.
