Lizzie Bell Gladd
Lizzie Bell Gladd, 93, of Clintonville passed away Wednesday at the Grove City Medical Center into the arms of her Savior.
She was born Oct. 22, 1922, in Boyers, and was the daughter of John M. Craig and Irene A. Bell Craig.
She graduated from Grove High School in 1941 and then married the love of her life, Clair Gladd on Feb. 17, 1943, who passed away Aug. 5, 1993. She was a very devoted housewife and mother.
Lizzie was an active member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Clintonville, serving on the administration board, trustee and was treasurer of the church's Sunday school from 1974 to December of 2014. She was a member of the Spare and Pair Sunday School Class. She also sang in the choir and helped with vacation Bible school every year.
Liz made quilts for her children and grandchildren and baby quilts for her great-grandchildren, and she made several other quilts she had given away over the years
She served as past president of Clintonville Women's Club and is the last surviving member of the original Harmony Grove Quilting Club. Liz enjoyed quilting, golfing and spending time with her family, especially spending time with her beloved cat, Sammie. She looked forward to Tuesday and Sunday game nights with her family, during which they played Phase 10 and Skip Bo.
Lizzie was also an active volunteer in the Clintonville area, helping in many local activities, including being a pole watcher for the elections. She helped the Salvation Army with collecting donations by being a bell ringer in the Clintonville area. Mrs. Gladd was a regular on the Venango County Republican float.
She is survived by her children, Diana I. Ward of Florida, Rodney C. Gladd and his wife, Betty, of Clintonville, Susan J. Hughes and her husband, Rev. Kenneth Hughes, of Emlenton, Steven E. Gladd and his wife, Wanda, of Clintonville, Mayor Becky L. Hedglin and her husband, Gary, of Clintonville and Kevin S. Gladd of Clintonville; one sister, Erla Ferringer of Franklin; three brothers, Donald Craig of Boyers, Alfred Craig and his wife, Vera, of Grove City and Leslie Craig and his wife, Joyce, of New Castle; and one sister-in-law, Naomi Craig of Butler.
She also is survived by her 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat, Sammie.
She was preceded by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Robert and William Craig; her grandson, Larry Hovis; her great-granddaughter, Jayme Schubert; two sisters-in-law, Carol and Gwendolyn Craig; her sons-in-law, Thomas Robb and Clifford Ward; her brother-in-law, LeRoy Ferringer; her niece, Jayne Craig; and her granddaughter, Dianna “Sissy” I. Fechter.
GLADD — Visitation for Lizzie Bell Gladd, who died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016, will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday with funeral services at 11 a.m. Monday at the McKinley Funeral Home, 109 Emlenton St., Clintonville, with the Rev.
