Elsie Geraldine (Sherwin) McCollough

Elsie McCullough

Elsie Geraldine (Sherwin) McCollough, 100, of Warren Manor went to be with the Lord on Saturday.

She was born in Karns City on Dec. 2, 1913, to Samuel and Alice Samantha (Kaylor) Sherwin. Elsie was the youngest of eight children and the last of her siblings to survive.

She was preceded in death by her four brothers, Peter David, Jesse Harvey, Joseph Samuel, and Lee Alfred, and her three sisters, Hattie Mabel (Mrs. Harry Wilbert Ekas), Hazel Irene (Mrs. Samuel Boyd Morris) and Ella Priscilla (Mrs. Edwin Dale Walker).

She also was preceded in death by her son, Robert Eugene McCollough, on May 27, 1947, at age 14; her two grandsons, John Young and Edward Young, and her great-grandchild, Johnny Young Jr.

Elsie graduated from high school in 1931, and in the same year married her high school sweetheart Edward Christian McCollough on June 29, 1931. One of her favorite memories to share is that they took her mother-in-law with them on their honeymoon. They took the first car they had owned, a Chevy with a rumble seat and her mother-in-law rode in the rumble seat. They enjoyed 74 years of a happily married life. Edward preceded her in death and died at the age of 94 on July 13, 2005.

Elsie is survived by five of her children, Mrs. Carol Ann Young of Conroe, Texas, Mrs. Marilyn Jean Henderson and her husband, Eugene, of Sumterville, Fla., Charles Bennet and his wife, Bertha Louise, of Sumterville, Fla., Samuel Sherwin and his wife Jeanne of Warren, Pa., and Joseph Edward and his wife, Vera, of Warren Pa. She is also survived by 26 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and more than 29 great-great-grand children.

McCollough — The family and friends of Elsie Geraldine (Sherwin) McCollough, who went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, may call at Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, 1003 Pennsylvania Ave., E. Warren, Pa.,from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday. The funeral service will be at noon Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Seth McClymonds, pastor of the Covenant United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Keith Martin, associate pastor of the Otterbein United Methodist Church, officiating.Committal service will be done at the funeral home and burial will be at Hillview Cemetery, Chicora.Memorial contributions can be made to the Otterbein United Methodist Church, Box 217, Pittsfield, 16340, to the Hospice of Warren County, P.O.
