Charles L. Moore

Charles L. Moore, 78, of William Flynn Highway passed away Saturday morning at Sunnyview Home after a lingering illness with his family by his side.

His life was extended 17 years by the grace of God, the miracles of modern medicine and by two unselfish people who donated their kidneys so Chuck could live. These gifts of life allowed him to dance with his only daughter, Karen, at her wedding, hold his only grandchild, Ashley, when she was born in 2001, celebrate his 40th and 50th wedding anniversaries, and watch his buddy, April, grow into a teenager.

For these and many other memories, his family is thankful to God and eternally grateful to those who gave the gift of life.

Born in Center Township, Aug. 26, 1926, he was the son of Harry Moore and Bertha Fleeger.

He was a machine operator for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Highway Department and retired in 1988 due to his health after 22 years.

Mr. Moore had a passion for gardening and taking care of lawns and enjoyed other activities that kept him outdoors.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Esther Herold Moore, whom he married June 12, 1953; a son, Charles L. Moore Jr. of Butler; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Karen) Shields of Slippery Rock; a granddaughter, Ashley Shields; two nieces; and three nephews.

Three brothers, a sister and a nephew preceded him in death.
