Edward P. Wojtyna, 90, formerly of Grandview Boulevard in Butler, died Saturday at Butler Memorial Hospital

He was born Sept. 16, 1919, in Butler, a son of the late John and Mary Panek Wojtyna. He was a 1939 graduate of Butler High School.

Ed was retired from the Butler Township Police Department. He served from Sept. 10, 1955, until his retirement on April 4, 1987. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 107 and the Butler County Law Enforcement Association.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. He earned the Purple Heart, the European- African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with four bronze stars, the American Theater Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He also was a member of American Legion Post 778 in Lyndora.

Mr. Wojtyna was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler and was a former usher at his church. He also was a member of the MORA club.

His wife, Helena J. Makjut Wojtyna, who he married Jan. 19, 1946, preceded him in death on May 21, 1997.

Surviving are his children and their spouses, Kathy and Ray Durbin of Danville, Ill., John P. Wojtyna and Lorelli Moser of Oakmont and Carol and Brian Hutzley of Renfrew. He also leaves six grandchildren, Barb Durbin Knicely and her husband, Monte Knicely, of Adamsville, Ohio, Brian Durbin of Danville, Ill., Bradley and Tyler Hutzley of Butler, Benjamin Wojtyna of Pittsburgh and Alexander Wojtyna of Oakmont; and three great-grandchildren, Ashley, Megan and Marshall Knicely of Adamsville, Ohio. His special friend, Eva Minto, also survives.

<B>WOJTYNA</B> — Friends of Edward P. Wojtyna, who died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler. Interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery.The St. Paul Guild and Christian Mothers will meet at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday at the church to recite the rosary.Military honors will be accorded by the combined Ceremonial Squad of VFW Post 249 and American Legion Post 778.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
