Margaret Stutz
Margaret V. Stutz, 101, of East Butler, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, March 24, 2022.
Born on Jan. 27, 1921, in Aspinwall, she was the daughter of the late Harry Steighner and Margaret (Dadowski) Steighner.
She married her husband, John A. Stutz, on Nov. 27, 1941, and together they raised four children.
Margaret spent her days as a homemaker. You could always find her in the kitchen baking something amazing. You could smell her bread baking from the street, and anyone that passed by knew they could stop in for a slice of warm bread – even passersby, who happened to walk along the train tracks behind the house. She also enjoyed cooking for her family. Every Sunday after church, she would prepare a special meal that everyone looked forward to. Crocheting was one of her favorite hobbies. For years, she would create beautiful afghans, blankets and especially doilies that she was proud to present as gifts to family and friends. She loved playing bingo and card games with anyone, but especially with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed watching old TV shows and movies.
For her entire life, Margaret was a devout Catholic. She was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler, where she also belonged to the Guild of Christian Mothers. She cherished her family and her faith — the two most important things in her life. Margaret was a kind and caring person, with a smile that made everyone feel loved.
She leaves behind an adoring family, who will forever cherish her memory, her children, John H. Stutz of East Butler, Francis (Victoria) Stutz of East Butler and Wanda (Randall) Bandura of Frostburg, Md.
She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two great-great- grandchildren, with two more on the way; and two brothers, Earl (Phyllis) Steighner of Davidson, N.C., and Francis (Joan) Steighner of Butler.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Stutz, who passed on Feb. 9, 1987; her son, Richard J. Stutz; her daughter-in-law, Evelyn Stutz; four brothers, Harry, Gilbert, Gerald and Louis Steighner; and one sister, Vera Reader.
