Carol M. Smith
Carol M. Smith, 78, of Buffalo Township, passed away peacefully Friday at West Haven Nursing Home in Washington Township.
Carol was born May 7, 1939, in Sarver. She was the daughter of the late Mildred I. (Schroeder) and Carl W. Spencer. She was the widow of William F. Smith, who died in 2007.
Carol had worked for many years at Moonlight Mushrooms in Winfield Township. She worked as a picker, packer, loader and fork truck operator. After the closing of the mushroom mine, Carol went to work for Fair Winds Manor as a certified nurses aide. She was also the dog warden for Buffalo Township.
Carol loved to crochet and had made well over 100 afghans. She was an avid hunter, enjoyed flowers, gardening and flea markets. She loved to spend time with her family and her pets, too.
Carol is survived by her daughter, Barbara Skillen of New Kensington; three sons, Barry and Cindy Smith of Cabot, Kenneth and Kimberly Smith of Buffalo Township and Ronald and Judy Smith of Lower Burrell; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her brother, Larry and Jane Spencer of New Kensington; three sisters, Donna and Ted Cousins of Jefferson Township, Marilyn Pitkivitch and Dan Powell of Saxonburg and Brenda and Bill Carbaugh of Marienville.
In addition to her parents and husband, Carol was preceded by her son-in-law, Charles Skillen; and her stepgrandson, Gregory Picone.
SMITH — Family and friends of Carol M. Smith, who died Friday, Dec. 8, 2017, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Redmond Funeral Home, 524 High St., Freeport.A funeral service will follow at 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev.
