Julie Homa Sheptak

Sheptak

A remarkable woman, Julie Homa Sheptak, 88, of Butler, died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday. Julie fought hard for four years since her diagnosis with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. She won that battle until the end of 2011 when the disease began fighting back.

Julie was born on Dec. 11, 1923, to Anna Prexta Homa and Michael Homa Sr.

She was a member of the St. John's Byzantine Catholic Church and, until a few years ago, was a high point contributor to her bowling teams. Gardening was a passion for Julie. She enjoyed growing vegetables and flowers. Julie also loved to travel, especially to tropical places such as the Caribbean and Hawaiian Islands. Many people will remember Julie as the “lunch lady” of Lyndora School. She worked other jobs at the Bantam Car Co. and Pullman Standard until she retired from the Butler County Memorial Hospital as a unit clerk in 1986.

Surviving Julie are her daughter, Lisa Sheptak Untrauer of San Jose, Calif.; her son, Michael Sheptak of Pittsburgh; four grandchildren, Sara Untrauer, Kaitlin Roeper, Courtney Roeper and Richard Sheptak; her loving companion, Robert Rankin; two brothers, John Homa and Paul Homa; a sister, Elsie Homa Kosar; her brother/nephew, Thomas Maker; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
