Alice May Hibbs

Alice May Hibbs, 88, of Zelienople went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday at Passavant Retirement Community, Zelienople.

She was born Nov. 5, 1925, in Natrona Heights, the daughter of the late Albert and Laura Skinner Hetrick.

Alice was a resident of Meridian for 60 years. She graduated from Freeport High School, was a member of the Meridian United Presbyterian Church where she was very involved, and was a Cub Scout den mother for all three of her sons.

Alice had worked at the Family Drug Store for her cousin, Herman Swigart, for years.

She was an avid gardener, raising flowers and vegetables for the entire neighborhood. She loved baking with her “daughter” Jean Harkus and her friends, Lois Young and Lois Stephenson, and she was famous for her zucchini bread and Christmas cookies. Her best childhood friend was her nephew, Francis “Pete” Larry LaPresto.

Alice delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. Anyone who knew her would say she was “easy to love.”

Surviving are her three sons, Eldin “Mike” (Donna Lee) Hibbs of Butler, Larry (Mollie Ann) Hibbs of Butler and Terry L. Hibbs of San Diego, Calif.; her three grandchildren, Kristin Hibbs of London, England, Lauren Hibbs (Wayne Morrison) of Butler and Michael (Kelley) Hibbs of Butler; her great-granddaughter, Eva Hibbs; her great-granddaughter on the way in December, Alice Olivia Hibbs, and her numerous cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eldin O. Hibbs, who she married on Nov. 1, 1946, and who died on Nov. 18, 2012; her grandson, Eric Paul Hibbs; her sisters, Margaret, Anna and Mroon, and her brothers, Albert, Louis, Nolan, George, Clinton, and Clem.

Hibbs— Friends of Alice May Hibbs, who died Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at theYoung Funeral Home, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Meridian United Presbyterian Church, 4150 Highland Ave., Meridian, with her pastor, the Rev.
