Seneca Valley musicians advance to regionals

Several talented Seneca Valley student musicians and singers recently advanced to regional competition.

Eighteen members of the Seneca Valley Band were selected to participate in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) Region 1 Band Festival, which was held at Mt. Lebanon High School on March 11.

Alaina Althouse, Paityn Armstrong, Emma Conrad, Bekah Heltzell, Elizabeth Hixon, Leta Hixon, Trey Hixon, Perter Ko, Katelyn Livorse, Katie Mack, Colton Marley, Maggie Monahan, Sreya Padamati, Jackson Scherzer, Katie Sylves, Sydney Thompson, Zachary Tollerton and Ray Walter participated in that festival.

Four Seneca Valley instrumentalists, Maddie Shipe, Erin Keppler, Tristan Conrad and Gretchen Kellar, were selected to participate in the PMEA Western Region Orchestra festival that had been scheduled to be held in Dubois, Clearfield County.

Due to inclement weather, the festival was canceled, but students prepared advanced literature and gained valuable experience and musical growth through the process, according to a district news release.

Fifteen choral students also advanced to the PMEA Region 1 Choir Festival that was held at Butler Intermediate High School in late March.

Those singers are Rylie Butler, Josh Cantella, Grace Fawcett, Trey Hixon, Elizabeth Hixon, Leta Hixon, Graham Logue, Colton Marley, Anya Maschmeier, Eli Peel, Greta Schmidt, Rachel Summers, Dorothy Vogel, Callum Williams and Caroline Zulick.
